The University Counseling Department at the Amman Baccalaureate School is one of the strongest counseling departments in the Middle East. Set up over twenty years ago, the department was designed to assist and support students and parents as they begin negotiating the confusing labyrinth of the university application process. Highly experienced counselors are available on a full time basis to answer students and parents concerns about entry qualifications, accessibility to degree programmes and availability of scholarships to universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe, not to mention assistance in entering local universities and US and British universities located in Europe and the Middle East.
Counseling students about universities begins once they enter Grade 9 when the counselors not only offer the PSAT exam here at school for Grades 9, 10 and 11, but also provide assistance to students when they are making their IB choices, ensuring that students will have taken the correct courses they will need for university entrance two years later. Special SAT courses are given twice a week to students in Grades 9 and 10. Our counselors also offer the ACT (American College Test) at the ABS as an alternative to the SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests. Grades 11 begin serious university counseling in their second semester so that they can begin contacting universities over the summer before they enter Grade 12.
Our webpage is constantly updated by one of the counselors so that students can learn about up-coming visits by deans of admissions, get hints on how to write personal statements and university essays as well as reminders about deadlines that they must meet, to mention only a tiny tip of the iceberg of information available for them online. The University Counseling Department also includes a complete University Library, one of the very best in the Middle East, which has Internet access, test preparation booklets, university catalogues, DVDs of universities and two full time, highly qualified university counselors available to answer all student and parent queries. One College Night is given by the University Counselors each semester: one in the first semester for parents of Grade 12 students and one in the second semester for parents of Grade 11 students. Our University Counseling team hosts many university fairs at school throughout the year and has established strong ties with universities in all parts of the world. The students from our school secure placements to some of the most prestigious universities in the world due in no small part to the continuous and highly professional efforts of the university counseling team at the ABS.
