Middle Years School
Students in Grades 6-10 follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). In 2002, Amman Baccalaureate School (ABS) was the first school in Jordan and the Middle East to be authorised to implement the MYP, a programme that provides an in-depth study of conventional subject areas within a challenging framework that emphasises the teaching of life skills for its students and prepares them for the challenges of the 21st Century.
Fundamentally, the IB MYP demonstrates how school subjects are interrelated and teaches students that consideration of issues and problems in their widest scope will enhance their critical thinking. Students’ ability to find acceptable solutions to a range of problems and adapt them to a variety of situations is developed through six cross-curricular perspectives, termed ‘Global Contexts’. This holistic approach to education, combined with the fostering of concept-based learning and international-mindedness, promotes in students the values of understanding, tolerance and respect. Consequently, adolescents are helped to grow into responsible members of the world community. The IB MYP is considered to be an excellent preparation for the IB Programmes that ABS students follow in Grades 11 and 12.

Each student is a member of a Mentor Group and a House, through which the wellbeing programme and the House activities programme are implemented. All Middle Years School students are encouraged to participate in the wide variety of cultural, sporting and service activities available to them. At the end of Grade 8, students are eligible for the Sarvath El Hassan Award, which requires successful completion of a number of different types of activities.
